Awning operating instructions

The awning is intended only to provide protection from the sun. It is not designed for use in strong wind, rain, snow or other adverse weather conditions. Most awning damage is caused by unexpected gusts of wind or water collecting on the fabric. Awning repairs are expensive, so compliance with these rules is mandatory.

Before opening the awning

• Choose a suitable place to park the motorhome and level the vehicle with levelling wedges if necessary.
• Open the awning only after the motorhome has been positioned in its final location.
• Before opening, make sure there is enough free space around the awning.
• Make sure there are no trees, branches, posts or other obstacles nearby that could damage the awning while it is being opened.

Opening the awning

1. Open the awning by approximately 40–60 cm, or far enough to remove the support legs from the front rail safely.
2. Take out both support legs and place them in their operating position.
3. Only after the support legs have been installed should you continue opening the awning to the desired length.
4. Set the awning at a slight angle, with one side a little lower than the other, so that water can drain freely.
5. Secure both support legs with pegs or weights.
6. For extended use, and even in light wind, additional storm straps are recommended.

During use

• Never leave the awning open in strong or gusty wind, during rain, heavy rain or snowfall, when weather conditions are deteriorating, overnight, or when no one remains near the motorhome.
• Never leave the awning open unattended, even in completely calm weather. If you leave the motorhome even briefly, close the awning completely. A sudden gust can damage the awning within seconds and may also damage the motorhome body.
• Close the awning immediately at the first sign of increasing wind or rain.
• Do not allow water to collect on the awning fabric. Even a relatively small amount of water creates a very heavy load and may bend the arms or damage the structure.
• Do not try to hold the awning by hand in strong wind. This will not prevent damage and may cause injury.
• Do not hang heavy objects from the awning, such as hammocks, swings, bicycles, heavily loaded clotheslines or heavy lamps, unless expressly permitted by the manufacturer.
• Do not light an open fire or place a barbecue, gas grill or other high-temperature appliance directly under or close to the awning.
• Do not allow children to hang from the front rail or play with the support legs.

Prohibited actions

• Opening the awning without installing both support legs.
• Using the awning without securing the support legs.
• Jacking up the motorhome or changing its position with levelling wedges after the awning has been opened.
• Using the awning in strong wind or precipitation.
• Applying excessive force to the crank. If the awning does not open or close freely, stop and identify the cause.
• Straightening bent structural parts or repairing the awning yourself.

Closing the awning

1. Before closing, make sure there is no water, snow, ice, leaves or other debris on the fabric.
2. If the awning has been set at an angle, wait until all water has drained away.
3. Remove storm straps, pegs and weights.
4. Fold both support legs completely and secure them inside the front rail.
5. Close the awning slowly and without using excessive force.
6. If you feel increased resistance or the fabric rolls up unevenly, stop, open the awning slightly, correct the problem and only then continue closing it.
7. After closing, make sure the awning is fully locked and return the crank to the motorhome.

If the awning becomes wet

If the awning had to be closed while wet, open it fully at the earliest opportunity and allow the fabric to dry. Storing wet fabric for a long time may cause mould, unpleasant odours and premature material wear.

Liability

Damage caused by wind, precipitation, accumulated water, incorrect installation, breach of these operating rules or leaving the awning unattended is the responsibility of the Renter.
